This section explains how to start ScanGear from a terminal software and scan a document.

Scanning from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder)

Scanning from the Platen

1. Place the document face-down on the Platen Glass.

2. Enter the following from the command line of a terminal software.

[user@zzz /yyy]$ scangearmp

3. The [Select Scanner] dialog is displayed.

* This window is not displayed if only one machine is connected and the model is not LAN enabled.

From the list, select the model you want to use, and then click [OK].

 

To use this machine with a USB connection, select "Canon MX890 series (libusb:port number)." To use this machine with a network connection, select "Canon MX890 series (MAC address)."

The models displayed in the list consist of USB-connected scanners and network-connected scanners.
When you start ScanGear for the first time in a network connection or if the scanner that you want to use is not displayed in the list, click [Update Scanner List] to run a network search.

For information about checking the MAC address of the machine, select the model to be used under "Appendix" and see "Checking the MAC address."

4. Click [Preview].

 

The preview image is displayed in the preview area.

5. Configure setting items as required.

For details on how to configure setting items, see the [Basic Mode] Tab.
For details about how to adjust the image brightness and color, see the [Advanced Mode] Tab.

 

6. Click [Scan].

The [Save Scan Image] dialog is displayed.

7. Select a file type from among "PNG," "PDF," and "PNM," specify the file name and directory, and then click [Save].

 

The scan is started and the scanned data is saved as a file.

Scanning from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder)

When scanned from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder), the documents are not previewed.

1. Place the edge-aligned sheets of documents of the same size on the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

The paper sizes that can be scanned from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder) are as follows:

- For simplex scanning: A5, B5, A4, Letter, and Legal

- For automatic duplex scanning: A4 and Letter

Documents that can be scanned from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder) in the basic mode are limited to the following standard sizes, depending on your language setting:

- English (U.S.): Letter

- Non-English (i.e. except U.S.): A4

2. Enter the following from the command line of a terminal software.

3. The [Select Scanner] dialog is displayed.

From the list, select the model you want to use, and then click [OK].

4. In [Select Source], select the document source to be scanned from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

Functions such as preview, output size selection, and cropping frame adjustment are not available.
Configure other setting items as required.

For details about how to adjust the image brightness and color, see the [Advanced Mode] Tab.

 

5. Click [Scan].

The [Save Scan Image] dialog is displayed.

6. Specify the file name and directory, and click [Save].

For [Save as type], you can only select PDF.

 

The scan is started and the scanned data is saved as a file.

If you have started ScanGear from a terminal software and scanned documents from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder), multiple images are saved in a PDF file.
